The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly requested additional information from Fortune Ofem, following a petition he submitted concerning the alleged misappropriation of funds at the Yakurr Local Government Council in Cross River State.
In a public statement, Ofem disclosed that the Commission acknowledged receipt of his petition on 29 July 2026. He further stated that he had received subsequent communication from the Commission requesting additional details to assist with its handling of the matter.
Reacting to the development, Ofem expressed hope that the concerns raised in his petition would receive the necessary attention through the appropriate institutional channels.
He maintained that his primary objective was to promote transparency, accountability and the proper management of public funds at the local government level.
Ofem reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the matter through lawful and established institutional processes, emphasising that public resources should be managed responsibly in the interest of the people.
“Public funds belong to the people, and the people deserve answers,” he stated.
He further stressed that his action was not a personal battle but a call for accountability and transparency in the administration of public resources in Yakurr.
Although the latest communication indicates that the ICPC requires further information from Ofem, the development does not, in itself, establish that the allegations have been proven or that the Commission has reached a conclusion on the matter.
