Professor Oka Obono Joins Sierra Leone Leadership in Discussions on University Reforms

FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE — Shortly after his appointment as Honorary Professor of the University of Sierra Leone (USL), Professor Oka Martin Obono has begun engagements focused on institutional development and reform at the historic university.

Professor Obono was pictured at the office of the Vice President of Sierra Leone following a meeting with H.E. Dr. Mohamed Jalloh, Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone; Prof. Aiah Lebbie, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone; and Mr. Munda Lebbie, Registrar of the University.

The meeting focused on the need for institutional reforms ahead of the bicentennial anniversary of the University of Sierra Leone in 2027.

The engagement forms part of Professor Obono's renewed contribution to the university following his recent appointment as Honorary Professor. His involvement is expected to build on his previous institutional development initiatives, including work around staff training and mentoring at Fourah Bay College.

For Professor Obono, the engagement also presents an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding educational and institutional ties between Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

Discover Ugep will continue to document the milestones and contributions of Professor Oka Martin Obono as he undertakes his new academic role in Sierra Leone.
